We are dedicated to training highly qualified therapists. One way we do this is by partnering with Converse College to help students who are working toward their master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy fulfill rigorous degree requirements through practice and evaluation. EMERGE is also accredited as a Post-Degree Institute. This means clinicians who already hold an advanced degree can come to EMERGE Family Therapy Center & Teaching Clinic to take additional coursework, receive a certificate of advanced training, and go through the process of being licensed as Marriage and Family Therapists in the state of South Carolina.
Whether a graduate student or an aspiring post-grad working toward licensure, our therapists are closely monitored and must meet certain requirements in order to practice in the clinical setting. As a graduate student, specific benchmarks must be satisfied before entering the clinical portion of the degree. Even after these benchmarks have been fulfilled, they are required to complete a rigorous screening process before they are able to see clients on their own. Furthermore, once these conditions are met, each clinician must also undergo 1 hour of supervision for every 5 hours of therapy. We require more frequent supervision sessions than most clinical programs to ensure that our clients are receiving the appropriate care to meet their counseling needs.
